What Is Color Analysis?
Color analysis (or seasonal color typing) is a method to determine which shades of clothing, makeup, and accessories best complement your natural coloring — skin tone, hair, and eyes.
Step 1: Determine Your Undertone
Hold a white piece of paper next to your face in natural light.
- Warm undertone: Your skin looks golden, peachy, or yellowish against the paper. Veins on your wrist appear greenish.
- Cool undertone: Your skin looks pinkish, rosy, or bluish. Veins appear blue or purple.
- Neutral: A mix of both — you can wear silver and gold equally well.
Step 2: Assess Your Contrast Level
Look at the difference between your hair color, skin, and eyes:
- High contrast: Dark hair + light skin + bright eyes (think: Snow White). You are likely a Winter.
- Low contrast: Everything is soft and muted — ash blonde hair, soft skin, gentle eye color. Likely a Summer.
- Medium-warm: Golden or red tones in hair, warm freckled skin. Autumn or Spring.
Step 3: Match Your Season
Spring (Warm + Light)
Best colors: coral, peach, warm green, golden yellow, ivory. Avoid: black, charcoal, icy pastels.Summer (Cool + Muted)
Best colors: lavender, dusty rose, powder blue, soft gray, mauve. Avoid: bright orange, mustard, neon colors.Autumn (Warm + Deep)
Best colors: terracotta, olive, mustard, warm brown, burnt orange. Avoid: cool pink, icy blue, bright white.Winter (Cool + High Contrast)
Best colors: black, white, emerald, royal blue, bright red, jewel tones. Avoid: muted pastels, beige, warm earthy tones. What Next?
Once you know your season, every shopping decision becomes easier. You will naturally gravitate toward pieces that make you look vibrant and skip the ones that wash you out.
